HARRIERS endured another afternoon to forget at Salford City as they were on the end of a 3-0 defeat on Saturday.

A hat-trick from half-time home sub Jack Redshaw was the difference between the two sides - he netted all three after the break including two in quick succession at the beginning of the half to put Harriers to bed.

That all came after Salford goalkeeper Max Crocombe kept out a Joe Ironside penalty on the stroke of half-time.

That was generally the visitors' only concrete chance on the afternoon - Redshaw taking over with a well-taken finish on 47 minutes, duly followed after as he turned home crosses from Mani Diesuervwe  and Mike Phenix.

Harriers made changes from the bench but the best sight of goal they had in the second period was an Ngwatala drive that aired just over the target.

HARRIERS head back out on to the road on Saturday as they tackle Salford City at Moor Lane, with James McQuilkn saying the side are looking forward to the challenge.

After consecutive defeats to begin this new term, the reds were more like their usual selves in the games that followed against FC United and Leamington.

Winning both gives the team a boost going into what will be another tricky tie.

Salford are, unquestionably, one of the favourites for the league title this season after a summer of heavy recruitment.

Our official YouTube channel caught up with James McQuilkin to look ahead to the game.

‘Macca’ is confident that the team is growing with each game at this early stage of the campaign.

“I think you can see that confidence is building,” he said.

“We’ve had a fair few new players and it takes time for the lads to understand our philosophy and the way we play.

“But I think it is progressing with every game and we’re growing with every game.”

Harriers will assess the fitness of Liam Truslove ahead of the game after he picked up a recent knock.

“It will be a good test for us because we know they’re a good side and that they’re going for it this year."  James McQuilkin

It’s not known as yet whether the reds will be able to call on skipper Ryan Croasdale ahead of the match after he was granted time to spend with his family for personal reasons in midweek.

Looking ahead specifically to the game at Moor Lane, McQuilkin knows what is in store for the team.

The same trip yielded a pretty miserable afternoon last season, but the player says it won’t change how the side approach the day.

“It’s a difficult place to go and last year it was difficult for us,” he added:

“But we put that behind us and we move on – we’ve prepared for the game as we always do and we’ll go there and try and be competitive.

“It will be a good test for us because we know they’re a good side and that they’re going for it this year.

“We look forward to the challenge.”

Kick-off at Salford City on Saturday is at 3:00pm
