ASHLEY Chambers was at the double as Harriers got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory against Brackley Town.

The front man notched in each half to record and in important victory for the Reds who put behind them a run of four successive home defeats.

Brackley had their moments but never truly looked like breaching a back-line that held firm for a clean sheet that will be a big boost to the confidence.

The lead came in the 11th minute but was deserved even by that point, with Chambers and Williams going close before the former turned home Bradley's cross with the aid of a deflection to put the home side in front.

Ndlovu planted a header wide for Brackley when well placed on 19 minutes before Walker saw an effort saved, but on the half hour Harriers really ought to have made it two when a splendid Chambers ball played in Bradley who was denied by a fingertip save from Lewis in goal.

The visitors went within inches of an equaliser just before the break when Byrne somehow rolled the ball past the far post when well placed to do better.

After the break, after a quiet start, a period of three minutes proved pivotal in deciding the game. Barely moments after Nti, in space, fizzed wide of the target at close range for the Saints, Harriers struck a second with a marvellous counter attack; Richards' blistering pace and a killer pass sending Chambers away, the striker cutting back before drilling home to make it 2-0.

The afternoon after that had a calming comfort about it for Harriers, who were assured in their defending. There were further chances, too. Six past the hour, Bradley's angled, distance drive almost caught Lewis cold after the goalkeeper charged up field only for the ball to drop over the bar.

Hall in the opposing goal had little to do but was resolute when Lowe weaved through the Harriers pack before shooting - the custodian staying right behind it to hold.

A final chance for 3-0 came with another great move with three of normal time remaining; Bradley driving an angled shot that almost crept into the far post. Waring, too, would have had a goal on his return debut as he stuck a boot at it, only for the ball to fizz past the target.

RUSS Penn wants Harriers to set the tone for December with a positive performance and result against Brackley Town at Aggborough on Saturday.

The Reds return to action this weekend after an enforced two-week break.

Their hopes of bouncing back from an FA Trophy exit at the hands of York were dashed last weekend when the trip to Spennymoor was postponed due to bad weather.

Now there’s finally action ahead as the Saints travel to Worcestershire.

Midfielder Penn is aware that the extended break can be both a benefit and a frustration, telling our official YouTube channel that it has allowed the group to do even more work on the training ground.

“You can look at it both ways, really,” he said.

“Obviously we want to rectify the two defeats we’ve had and get a victory ASAP.

“But we’ve had two weeks of really good training and put a lot of work into the lads. We’ve tried a few new things [to] really give it a go this weekend and the coming month.

“It’s massive tomorrow because we haven’t got a game the week after.

“It is going to be a really tough game tomorrow… but the onus is on us now.”  Russ Penn

“A good result and a good performance puts us in good stead for the four games in 11 days over the Christmas period, where we can really kick on.”

The visitors on Saturday come to town on the back of a defeat themselves, having gone down 2-1 to Altrincham last time out.

The FA Trophy holders have been in good form in general, though, with that set-back a first defeat in eight matches.

“Their aim, like a lot of clubs, will be promotion,” added Penn.

“I watched them in the Trophy Final last year and they were superb and deserved the victory.

“It is going to be a really tough game tomorrow… but the onus is on us now.”

Harriers will have new signings Aaron Phillips and George Waring available for selection on Saturday.

Jimmy O’Connor missed out through injury in the team’s last game against York and will be assessed going into the weekend.

Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm
