MANNY SONUPE struck a brace as Harriers deservedly picked up their first win of the season with a 2-1 success at FC United of Manchester.

The home side had the lead inside seven minutes as Harriers started on shaky ground, Danny Wisdom turning the ball home at a corner.

But as the match wore on the confidence grew and, on 20 minutes, Sonupe beautifully headed in a Bradley cross to level things up - before going close with another effort before the break that he nodded on to the bar.

Joe Ironside has been tireless so far this season but luck was against him as he stabbed wide from close range, following up after Ryan Croasdale had seen a shot well saved.

The second half was almost all Harriers and after Ngwatala, Daly, McQuilkin and Andre Brown had all gone close, Sonupe finally gave his team a deserved lead in the final ten minutes as he cleverly tucked home from another McQuilkin delivery.

HARRIERS travel to FC United of Manchester on Saturday and goalkeeper Brandon Hall is another voice urging his team to pick up some points.

The camp has been left frustrated by Harriers’ start to the season with back-to-back defeats so far.

There’s an urgency about the need for some momentum as we approach the weekend, with boss John Eustace and towering defender Liam Daly among those calling for improvement.

Looking ahead to the trip to Manchester, Hall was the latest to agree to that sentiment.

He says Harriers are “a million miles better” than their start to the season has shown.

“It has not been an ideal start,” he commented.

“We are all itching for some points and it will be a good test on Saturday – we want to go and get a win.

“We know what we are capable of and we feel we’re a million miles better than what we’ve shown so far.

“We know it’s far from our top performance and if this is us at our worst then we know we have a lot to improve on and that we can do well this season.”

"Something has got to give so hopefully we can go and get three points."  Brandon Hall

With the exception of Lee Vaughan Harriers have no real injuries to contend with ahead of the weekend.

The likes of Dan Bradley and Elton Ngwatala will continue to be managed conservatively as they build up their match sharpness.

Harriers are going up against a United side who’re also winless this season.

Hall went on to add: “Something has got to give so hopefully we can go and get three points.

“That’s what we need to go and do; it’s three games in and we have to start kicking on and picking up points.”

Kick-off at FC United of Manchester on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
