Returning defender Lee Vaughan says he’s happy to be ‘home’ after re-joining Harriers this week.

The 30-year-old penned a two-year deal at Aggborough, beginning a second spell at the club having previously been here between 2010 and 2014.

Speaking exclusively to our YouTube channel, Vaughan revealed he’d always believed he would return to Harriers during his career -although perhaps not in these circumstances.

Fresh from being named in the National League Team of the Year for his efforts at Tranmere, it’s all change in terms of a challenge for the tenacious full-back.

He said: “The aim was to always come back.

“Maybe it’s a little bit earlier than I though and maybe it’s in a division that I certainly didn’t think it would be in.

“It’s a place I know very well, but a lot of things have changed – and certainly for the better.”  Lee Vaughan

“But the Chairman has been in touch and the Manager and Matt Gardiner, for a while now.

“They’ve been selling the club to me and it’s like coming home, to be honest.

“It’s a place I know very well, but a lot of things have changed – and certainly for the better.

“The club is moving in the right direction and when I left it was going downhill in terms of financials and whatever was happening.

“I just see the club as going forward and on the way up now.”

Vaughan’s injury – a broken leg sustained last season – means he’s a little way behind the rest of the squad when it comes to fitness.

But he’s not hoping to miss too much of the season, readying himself for that battle before the next task of finding his way into John Eustace’s team.

He insisted: “It won’t be too long – I’ve already had two months out.

“I think as soon as I am up and running, and I’d say early September time, I won’t be far away.

“But I have to get match fit, and then I have to get into a team that I know will be up there, with some very good players.”
