Eustace hails squad mentality

It is important that everyone is in it together….

JOHN EUSTACE gave credit to the togetherness of the Harriers squad in the wake of the 3-0 win over Southport on Saturday.

The team picked up another big three points while scoring more goals and nabbing a clean sheet.

It completed a good week inside their own ground for Harriers, who also beat FC United 4-0 just days prior.

After Saturday, though, Eustace gave a word of praise to two of the players who actually started the day on the bench.

James Pearson and Sam Austin both played big roles from the off in the United victory, but had to watch on Saturday as Joel Taylor and Fraser Horsfall made returns.

And as well as the latter two did, Eustace knows the support and mentality of Austin and Pearson also remained crucial.

On making the team changes, he commented: “We haven’t had those decisions to make throughout the season, and it was a really tough decision to leave Jamo and Sammy Austin out as they were magnificent on Tuesday.

“But it is important that we have a strong squad if we want to keep going up the league.

“It is important that everyone is in it together, which they are…” John Eustace

“It is important that everyone is in it together, which they are.

“Although they were disappointed not to be playing, they still supported all the lads out on the pitch and that’s what I want – though they both haven’t spoken to me for a couple of days!

“When they come back into the team they will be very good, which they have been all season.”

Of the 3-0 win, secured for Harriers thanks to goals from Emmanuel Sonupé, Horsfall and Joe Ironside, the gaffer added: “I think we continued from Tuesday night as the first half was very good and I was pleased with the performance.

“You always want to keep going but we were playing against a very good team who’re very experienced.

“Kevin has a really strong squad together there and it was never going to be as easy in the second half – the lads had to dig in, and the lads saw it through.”
