MANCHESTER CITY and England star Jill Scott hailed a “great day for all” as Harriers held a unique girls’ soccer camp during half-term week.
Girls between the ages of six and 18 made their way to the Centre of Sporting Excellence in Kidderminster for a special session with the midfielder.
The 31-year-old was able to share some of her experience from a career that’s spanned the better part of 15 years and seen her make more than 100 appearances for Everton before her switch to City where she this week also racked up a century of games.
The England international – with more than 120 caps for her country – caught up with our official YouTube channel at the end of the day, and clearly enjoyed the activity.
“It has been really good, and the turnout has been great,” she said.
“I’ve said to the girls today that when I used to come and was one of them on these soccer camps, it was usually me and 30 boys!
“To see so many girls turn up today was fantastic.” Jill Scott
“To see so many girls turn up today was fantastic.
“When I was younger it as hard to find football for girls and while I don’t think it is a bad thing for them to play with the boys, in terms of confidence it is good for them to be playing with girls around similar ages.
“To now see that these opportunities are there for them and that they’re accessible for them to come along and have a good day with their smile on their face and hopefully learn a few things as well, it’s really good.
“Women’s football has progressed in order to give these girls these opportunities. It was a great day for all.”
Harriers own’ Ladies team were represented on the day with the likes of skipper Amber Lawrence on hand to work with youngsters.
