Manager Neil MacFarlane took plenty of positives from his side’s first pre-season game despite defeat against Shrewsbury Town.
A mix of contracted players, Academy and U23s players plus trialists were split into two groups getting 45 minutes against the League 1 side.
While Town were 3-0 winners, there was plenty for the boss to be encouraged by; despite the concession of three poor goals, Harriers defended relatively soundly and controlled parts of the came thanks in part to commanding performances from the likes of Declan Weeks.
Reflecting on a testing first encounter, the boss told our YouTube channel: “First of all, that’s what it was – a very good workout for us.
“It was a first 45 minutes for us as a team to get under our belts as we changed the team around at half-time to make sure everybody got 45 minutes.
“In that respect it was a really good.
“As I said to the boys, we have to get into that winning mentality and we don’t want to be praising them when we lose, but we have to have an understanding that some of the work we’ve been doing for the first two and a half weeks was on show.
“Our organisation was good; we gave up a few chances other than the poor goals we lost, and its continual improvements.”
