Young Harriers defeated at Alvechurch

Read the report of this evening’s cup defeat…

A very young Harriers team fell to defeat to Alvechurch to bow out of the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

The Harriers team, which consisted of players from Harriers’ Academy and U23s teams, faced a vastly experienced and successful Alvechurch side, who took the lead after four minutes.

Tom Turton dispatched a penalty to open the scoring, finishing high to the left of Ewan Mountjoy.

Danny O’Callaghan doubled the lead just one minute later, rounding Mountjoy and finishing into the empty net.

After the quickfire opening, Harriers had their first chance of the game after 14 minutes. Tom Smith meets the ball on the edge of the area after the ball is headed away from a corner, firing at goal powerfully, but just over the bar.

Harriers matched their vastly experienced opponents until five minutes before half time, as Turton dispatched another penalty, before Joshua March bent the ball into the far corner to make it four at the break.

Alvechurch flew out of the blocks in the second half, Turton completing his hat trick after 47 minutes from the penalty spot once again, this time shooting to Mountjoy’s left.

The final goal of the evening fell on 63 minutes as Kieron Cook netted on the rebound of a shot from Turton.

Harriers substitute Gabriel Danko almost grabbed a goal as the clock struck 90, pressing the Alvechurch back line well and forcing a mistake, intercepting the ball inside the area and cutting onto his left foot and shooting. The ball was heading for the corner, but took a deflection to send it out of play.
