ASHLEY Chambers says he’s happy to be hitting the goal trail at just the right time on the eve of the brand new season.

The summer recruit at Aggborough has enjoyed a solid pre-season campaign – getting himself fully fit and adding in some goals for good measure.

Strikes against the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Solihull Moors came, he feels, at just the right time as the boys prepare to kick off the season proper at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena.

“The first few weeks is just getting summer out of the way and getting used to it,” said the striker of his summer campaign.

“As pre-season has gone on I have improved more and more over the games and it is nice to start chipping in with the goals and getting that back feeling again just in time for the season to start.

“…You need players to be pushing you every day to keep on improving….”

“I am looking forward to it and hopefully I can continue that form on into the season.”

Harriers are certainly not short of ammunition in the striking department.

Joe Ironside has also been in strong scoring touch this summer, while new recruit Kane Richards also remains a threat.

Chambers added: “That’s what it takes to be a successful team – you need a squad and you need players to be pushing you every day to keep on improving.

“It’s only going to help the team on the pitch. There is a lot of competition people are ready to step in when called upon, so it is about the players who do get the starting shirts staying on their toes and making sure they put in 100% every week.”
