A week after their defeat to FC United of Manchester, boss Neil MacFarlane was far happier with his side’s performance in the 0-0 draw at Guiseley.
The Reds had been urged to respond after being defeated at home 2-1 by United on October 20.
To do so, they needed a performance and result against one one the division’s most imposing sides in The Lions.
While MacFarlane admitted the team had numerous chances to have collected a maximum haul of points from Nethermoor, he was clearly much more satisfied with the way his charges dug in to see out what was a difficult afternoon’s work.
“It was a terrific performance… really good shape and really good organisation,” he said.
“It was pleasing to keep a clean sheet and we have had numerous chances, again, to win the football match.
“But I couldn’t ask any more from the group after last week and, again, we have responded in the right manner.
“…I couldn’t be happier with how we went about our business.” Neil MacFarlane
“It was a very big test as Guiseley are in good form at the moment and they were difficult conditions again, but we really stood up to the game… I was thoroughly delighted with the performance.”
The home side are themselves in good form as they look to close in on National League North’s ever-competitive play-off picture.
“They’re a real threat,” added MacFarlane.
“They have a long throw from either side and it is critical that you don’t give needless free kicks away, but we dealt with everything and I couldn’t be happier with how we went about our business.”
