JOE IRONSIDE’S penalty helped Harriers secure consecutive National League North victories as they won 1-0 at FC United of Manchester.

The spot-kick capped a dominant first half for Harriers, who know they can only continue to do their ‘bit’ as they bid to gatecrash the North play-off places.
Ashley Chambers and Ed Williams added further chances to a hefty tally for the visitors who saw out the win without any serious fuss.

Harriers had their shooting boots on early enough and regularly kept Fisher in the home goal on his guard. Chambers and Butterfield were first up to test him with efforts he held well, before good reactions saw him tip a ball around the post after a cross, deflected off Williams, threatened to find his top corner.
A strong run by Austin on the quarter-hour mark played in Taylor who lashed a shot wide, the same player again supplying the ammunition four minutes later – this time for Horsfall – for another shot that Fisher met well.
Harriers had a big chance on 26 minutes when Ironside flicked on to Chambers, playing him in on goal. Chambers kept his cool and chipped the ball over Fisher, only to see the ball drop just wide of the target.
The breakthrough would come just nine minutes later as Harriers were awarded a penalty after a foul on Chambers – Ironside stepping up to net his 16th goal of the season. Not long after, only a superb block on the line kept out a Chambers volley as Harriers searched for a quick-fire double.
United’s chances were very much restricted before the break, but one they did have saw Lynch meet a corner well, though his header was over Palmer’s target.
The hosts were keen to set about Harriers after the restart, and though Willoughby had two good opportunities, he served to spurn them both, before Horsfall headed off target up at the other end, Chambers doing so too on the hour.
The two sides then traded half chances from distance as the likes of Austin, McAlinden and United’s Potts tried their luck, Ironside getting up well with 20 left to play, his header from Taylor’s cross held by Fisher.
O’Halloran should have done better for the hosts with a header not long after, before Harriers ended the game the stronger with a string of chances – McAlinden and Flowers going close before Williams, Richards and Chambers followed suit. Of those, Williams was closest to a second Harriers goal as he saw a low, powerful drive well blocked.
