Boss: “We cause our own downfall”

MARK YATES was unable to hide his disappointment after his team’s 2-1 defeat to Leamington on Good Friday.

Harriers had taken an early lead at Aggborough but essentially handed the win to the Brakes with what followed.

The result, while not in itself mathematically shutting the team out of this season’s play-offs, pretty much ensures it will be more National League North football at Aggborough in 2019/20.

That wasn’t a fact lost on the boss, who commented after the set-back: “You’ve got to win and [then] you’re hoping for something that’s probably not going to happen.

“It’s not what we wanted, obviously, as we wanted it to go right to the wire.

“But that’s just the way the season has gone, and the way the game has gone today.

“We just have to take it on the chin, be professional, and go to Southport looking to win.”

Yates went on to add: “I can’t fault the effort from the players, they’ve given everything in the second half.

“We just cause our own downfall in the first half of games.”
