Austin: “I love the club”

Austin praises club and fans after new contract…

Kidderminster Harriers' Sam Austin

The versatile Austin has clocked up over 100 appearances in red and white during the first three years of his Harriers spell, including 30 starts in a productive 18/19 season on a personal note.

His new deal keeps him at Aggborough until the end of the 19/20 season, and Austin praised the club and the fans as part of his decision to stay with Harriers.

Austin’s is already looking forward to the new season, and stated that his first target is to keep playing games regularly.

“Last season was my best season here and the only way that I can improve is by getting more games,” said Austin.

“One of my goals is to be in the squad; being in the starting eleven and playing as many games as possible – that’s got to be everyone’s aim, especially this early in the season.

“When you’re playing, you can start to add targets to your game but when you’re preparing for pre-season, your first aim is that starting eleven shirt.

“I love the club and I think it’s run really well, and deserves to be higher than where it is – I just want to be part of the squad that helps do that.

“We’ve got a really good chance – everything is run correctly and with the right players and a good manager, we can definitely get there.

“The fans have been there at every game and even towards the end of the season when we didn’t have anything to play for; they were still there supporting us, and that’s what’s great about this club”.

With a few weeks having passed since the conclusion of the 18/19 campaign, Austin has had a chance to reflect and is looking to right those wrongs during the season ahead.

“I think we had a great start to the season, but I think that we needed to grow up a bit quicker and be a bit more solid at the back – throughout the season, we conceded too many goals,” said Austin.

“If we would have tightened up and seen a few games out – such as Blyth Spartans away – we would have been a few more points up”.
