ON TRIAL striker Jordan Murphy's dramatic late goal saw Harriers down Stourbridge in a pre-season Worcestershire Senior Cup clash at the Memorial Ground.
Boss John Eustace included a handful of trialists for this game but still included a good sprinkling of first-team talent in the squad.
Though first half chances were at a premium, Harriers played at a fantastic tempo and were first to almost every ball in the opening period.
That in itself put pressure on the home side, with the visitors' best chances coming on the break; youngster James Hancocks fizzing an effort across goal and wide, and James McQuilkin seeing a free-kick well held by Stourbridge goalkeeper Matt Gould.
Easily the best chance of the half came on the stroke of the interval; McQuilkin involved again as he combined superbly with George Taylor before whipping a cross to the far post, where Jordan Murphy took it down before firing at goal and forcing a smart parry from Gould.
Former Harriers man Justin Richards had a half-sight of goal soon after the break as he forced Jono Brown to gather the ball, as the second period became a little more sluggish, yielding fewer chances than the first.
With the hour mark having passed, Brown was forced to be on his mettle as Stourbridge broke, Hauge's first-time shot looking dangerous, with the shot-stopper right behind it to block and then gather.
A frustrating half looked to be edging all the way to penalty kicks with neither side either to find that killer touch - then in a flash, Harriers got exactly that as Murphy, picking up on the ball out side, cut inside and drilled a firm finish beyond Gould. An unnerving finish.
