Fans in 12 Goal Thriller

Posted on: Mon 22 Sep 2008

Latest update fromm Dave Pountney

The Harriers fans team salvaged an unlikely draw at the weekend in a highly entertaining game against the Dorchester Town supporters team.

All the squad, with the exception of Captain Wayne Allen, stopped in Weymouth Friday night and I think it's fair to say most of the squad were a bit delicate on Saturday morning.

Unlike at Leeds, though, all the squad managed to get out of bed - despite rumours of karaoke, and skinny-dipping at 6:00am!

The previous night's escapades didn't seem to have an effect as Ollie Sewell gave Harriers the lead with a fine strike.

It was soon to go horribly wrong though as comical defending allowed Dorchester back in to the game. The KHIST side soon conceded again with the hosts opening up the Harriers defence with ease time and time again.

You could argue that the previous night's events were taking their toll but the Harriers completely lost all shape with the young Dorchester side first to every ball. A beleaguered Harriers were glad to reach half time and some respite, 6-1 down courtesy of three own goals, the pick being Harty rifling the ball past his own goalkeeper from six yards.

After a few strong words at half-time a re-organised Harriers took the field hoping to at least to give some respectability to the scoreline.

We soon pulled one back courtesy of a dubious penalty, despatched by Pountney. After moving Dave Williams, out of the way/to the back, Kiddy looked much more solid and soon scored through David Goode before David Pountney scored again.

The Harriers were suddenly a different team, actually passing to team mates, and with a couple of minutes to go Ollie Sewell reduced the deficit to one. Then in the fourth minute of stoppage time Harriers were awarded a throw in on the edge of the box. Dave Pountney, ala Rory Delap, sent the ball into the box which fell to Dave Williams on the edge of the area. Rolling back the decades he proceed to volley the ball into the bottom corner to give the Harriers a most unlikely draw and cue wild celebrations and the final whistle.

It was a game of two halves and seeing the state of certain players on the Friday night it was understandable that it make take a while sober up. Full credit though to everyone who played their part second half and gave a real team performance.

Man of the match was awarded to Dave Williams for a good defensive display and a goal he will be retelling to everyone for years to come. Next up is another long trek to the south coast to play the supporters of Eastbourne Borough.
