So, where do we go from here?
Well, let's be honest for a minute, it's not exactly been a brilliant start to the season has it? It was nice to see us get back to winning ways on Saturday at Altrincham, but I think we all expected a win there. After all, they are bottom of the league without a win.
Even Steve Burr came out and said that we can perform better and he is right. Yes it's still early days, but it is so important to get a good start. Look at our "friends" Wolves down the road, when they got promoted, they started with seven wins out of eight and never looked back. If we can find that kind of form, then it could be us who are celebrating!
We've already had disappointments season. First, there was there 4-3 defeat to Southport, when you score three goals you expect to win. Then, there was "that" loss to Newport. Now, I don't think anyone expects to lose so badly against a newly-promoted side. Then again, they have started pretty well and find themselves in the "dizzy" heights of mid-table already.
Oh, whilst I'm on the subject of losing (I am sorry, I'll try and be more upbeat in a minute) why can't we seem to win at Aggborough? We've picked up just one point from a possible nine at our place…makes me think that maybe we have a Birmingham City-esque curse on the ground. That said, we did well to come from two behind to draw 2-2 with Tamworth the other week.
Ok, now I've depressed you all to the point of extinction, let's look at some positives from the season (frantically searches the internet for some positive stats). Well, Nick Wright has started the season well and has scored three goals so far. Now, although three in seven doesn't sound too impressive, you have to remember he only managed four in 20 plus games for Tamworth last season. Let's hope the youngster can keep this more positive goal tally up!
What else…oh yes, we are scoring plenty of goals! A return of 12 goals from seven games nearly averages out at two a game, which is a pretty impressive tally. Now, if we can juts sort out the amount we concede, then we'll have no problem! Look, I'm trying my best to be upbeat here, work with me!
Anyway, let's have a quick look at the weekend before we all turn into Gazza on those crisp adverts. We face Hayes & Yeading who haven't won in a few games now and are still disappointed after giving away the lead to lose to Histon 2-1 last week. This is a great change for us to break our new-found Aggborough hoodoo and an opportunity to record our first consecutive set of wins this season. After all, if we do win on Saturday, then we could be as high as eighth by tea-time!
So let's get behind the team again, put the bad start behind us and start moving up that league. It's still early days and we've got time to turn it around. Oh, and before I forget, can we have no Barry Fry-style attempts at getting rid of the 'curse' at Aggborough. I don't think the groundsman would be best pleased...
