NORGROVE: Chairman's Update

Posted on: Sun 09 May 2010

Kidderminster Harriers Chairman Barry Norgrove is urging supporters to put their trust in boss Steve Burr when Season Tickets for the brand new season go on sale at Aggborough from tomorrow morning.

Preparations for the 2010/11 Blue Square Bet Premier campaign have been underway for weeks here at Aggborough with Burr hard at work to gradually put together the pieces of his new squad.

With departures and new arrivals to follow in the near future, it is going to be an exciting time for all involved with the club - and in his latest review of affairs with your official website, Norgrove is asking Kidderminster fans to buy into what Burr is building, and back him by buying or renewing Season Tickets.

The Chairman revealed that verbal deals have already been struck with a number of players still under contract at other clubs, to come to Aggborough next season.

Whilst those contractual issues mean that deals cannot be signed and sealed until the players themselves become free agents, Norgrove insists he is very happy with the way his manager is going about business early on in the closed-season, and that fans can be too.

"We're hoping we can sell a lot of Season Tickets this year and we're really asking the supporters to put their trust in Steve for the new season because he really does have a lot of great ideas," he told harriers.co.uk.

"At the moment we're waiting for a lot of players to come through at the beginning of July when their contracts at their current clubs are up.

"Steve has planned out very well who he would like to bring in but obviously we cannot say too much about individuals who remain under contract.

"I know for certain that the players he is looking at are good players and players who not only are well liked, but also want to come here and play for us.

"Clubs are interested in them and we are hopeful that they will come through with what they've told us and become Kidderminster players.

"We just need the supporters to remain patient and believe in what we're doing - I am very happy with what Steve has put in front of me and it is really just a case of waiting."

With Burr already stating that there will be change at the club this summer, it is very much now the former Stalybridge manager's chance to get stuck in and really begin by stamping his own personal mark on the team he plans to unleash on the division next term.

Norgrove continues to speak incredibly highly of the man he worked so hard to bring to the club in the New Year.

He added: "Steve Burr is an incredibly honest and trustworthy person and we still are so delighted we were able to bring him to Kidderminster.

"He has just had his contract extended to remain with the England C side and I know he does a very good job there and that the England board think the world of him.

"With that contact he has and with those relationships he has with so many people, he gains the trust of so many in the game and at the end of the day that is going to benefit us tremendously - that is why we brought him here in the first place."

Moving more specifically towards tomorrow's Season Ticket sales, the Chairman confessed that the income brought about by these tickets is beyond crucial to how the club is able to further strengthen its new team.

He wants fans from the Wyre Forest and far beyond to invest in the new term at Aggborough, and reveals his genuine feeling that they will continue to get value for money as the club continues to battle in amongst the biggest sides ever seen in non-league football.

"It is the same with any business - you can only spend what money you have and so we have worked tremendously hard to try and bring in new sponsorships and new business, any way that we can make funds," he went on to say.

"We are at a stage now where the financial side of things has moved on to Season Tickets, as it will do at any club in any summer.

"We are urging all of the supporters out there from Kidderminster and all of the surrounding areas to come up and buy Season Tickets, as every one we sell is going to make a difference to what we are able to pass on to Steve.

"It doesn't take much working out that you need as much funding as possible to bring in players and so Season Tickets will pay a massive part in that.

"I think we've produced a good product here for a number of years now - we are always making good progress in the Cup competitions or are always at least there or thereabouts in the play-off picture.

"We believe we've had some good seasons and we really want that to continue - and it definitely will with Steve Burr because he is a fantastic manager.

"This is a massive League and supporters, I am sure, will be getting value for money over the course of the season. You cannot guarantee that every game will be perfect but you know that with Steve you will get football that is attacking and entertaining to watch."

The big news from the last month or so has of course been the striking of a deal between the club and local computer specialists OGL.

Coming back on board as the club's main sponsors following a previous seven-year spell between 1997 and 2004, the local giants will be back on the front and back of the new home and away shirts, and shor#ts.

Norgrove was again quick to praise the commitment shown by the company towards the club, especially in such testing financial times.

He continued: "Everybody knows that in the recession, business have suffered and clubs are the same - not just here and at this level, but all across the Football League as well.

"OGL coming on board is absolutely fantastic in that respect, it really is a great deal.

"We are really pleased to have them here and, again, I really cannot thank them enough.

"We have a good couple of years ahead of us with them here and we are looking forward it.

"It is far more than a simple money-for-sponsorship deal, OGL are a company who really do get involved with us on many levels.

"We have already agreed that they will be holding some of their meetings and Conferences upstairs in the Aggborough Suite and they will of course be here for some games during the season as well, so we will be seeing a lot of them.

"They care a lot about the football club and obviously have a good history here."

The world is set to go football crazy over the coming months with the World Cup fast approaching in South Africa.

It'll be even busier here at Aggborough as we continue the countdown towards the brand new season. Just the way we like it!

Norgrove concluded: "We have a busy summer - we seem to work harder here in the summer than we do when the matches are on!

"But it is an exciting time. Steve has a lot to do but he is thoroughly enthusiastic about it.

"He is working so hard here towards next season and also has a couple of trips coming up with the England side this month.

"Hopefully with the World Cup as well it can be a good summer for football and for us."
