CHAIRMAN'S Q&A RESPONSES

Posted on: Tue 17 Jan 2012

We're pleased to be able to bring you a selection of the answers given by Chairman, Mark Serrell, to supporters of Harriers who sent in questions just prior to the turn of the year.

We received a strong amount of questions on a range of topics and every e-mail received was replied to personally by the Chairman.

Understandably we received substantially more questions on some topics than on others so, to save repeating each question and each answer, we've reproduced the Chairman's answers on topics in general.

Mark has also agreed to stage further Q&As online and via e-mail at stages throughout the season so this certainly won't be the last. If you have a question in the interim, however, never shy away from firing a mail to Mark by sending them to chairman@harriers.co.uk.

On the subject of the club's financial position and stability…
Kidderminster is in a better financial position than last year and does not have any substantial debts apart from our long-standing brewery loan which is being paid in a structured, managable way.

We have tried to increase revenue where possible and cut unnecessary costs. We now produce monthly cash flow forecasts and quarterly accounts for the Board of Directors to review. In essence we try not to spend what we have not got.

But we must continue to urge caution. KHFC does not have the financial resources of many of the clubs at our level, and we must continue to "punch way above our weight" if we are to have any chance of continuing our recent form.

Interest in Jamille Matt, other players and contracts for players and management…
I can confirm that Steve, Gary and the Board of Directors are continually monitoring the position regarding contracts and contract extensions for all players - including Jamille, and are doing their upmost to improve our playing squad.

We have stated that we do not have to sell any of our players during this transfer window, in fact Steve and Gary are working very hard to try and strengthen our squad and we hope to secure additional players before the end of January 2012 .

However we always have to take into account the interests of both the player and the Club and we would be foolish to make any guarantees about what may happen in the future.

With regards to any names of potential targets, Steve and Gary have full responsibility in choosing the players they require. I think their track record speaks for itself.

We have received enquires about Steve Burr from a number of clubs since March 2011. Steve is fully aware of all interest that has been expressed. Steve is contracted at Kidderminster Harriers FC until May 2014 and we continue to concentrate on fully supporting Steve and his team in our pursuit of promotion to the Football League.

Further appointments to the Board…
The number of Directors at KHFC has increased recently. This will help to share the responsibility and workload.

I hope this is not the end of new appointments but we have no time scale in which to recruit new members of the board.

'Rumours' on the potential purchase of Chainwire Sports Ground in Kidderminster….
I understand that Stourbridge College are in advanced negotiations to purchase the Chainwire Sports Ground.

If negotiations prove successful, we hope to be involved in improving the facility for the benefit of all players for Kidderminster Harriers.

Budgets, attendances et al…
We have budgeted for around 1800 people per game including Season Ticket holders for this season.

With regard to gate income we keep all gate income for all League games at home but with all cup competitions we have to share all of the gate income less costs - for example stewarding costs, floodlights, officials, and away team travel.

With regards to the average weekly income and I assume you mean players, this is commercially sensitive information and believe it will not benefit the club by releasing this information.

I can say however, that we believe our playing budget to be one of the lowest in the Blue Square Premier and certainly within the bottom six. This a testament to the incredible hard work and dedication of all the players, management and staff at Kidderminster Harriers Football Club.

The installation of a lift up to the Academy at Aggborough and other ground issues…
I can confirm that Keith Chandler has completed plans and has given us a guideline costing for the work to complete a lift into the Academy. The costing is around £40,000 and we are now looking at funding alternatives.

You may be aware that I have started a sponsored slim in order to raise money towards a lift. Check out our website for more information.

Aggborough Stadium is graded annually by The Football League and although we have yet to be graded this year I am confident that we will meet Football League guidelines.

With regards to resurfacing the away end, I too would like it to be completed but at present we do not have any spare cash.

I can confirm that we also are looking into the possibility of more sustainable and cost effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

We are just looking into a grant from the Carbon Trust to improve our energy efficiency. We are considering a borehole to supply water for the pitch and hopefully stadium and are looking to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.

Future kit designs…
I understand that the halved shirts for both home and away would be very popular with the fans, but we have to balance this popularity with the wishes of potential shirt sponsors who pay a great deal of money to promote their company or product.

Season Tickets, incentives…
With regards to an incentive on season ticket prices - I believe we already offer good value for money - early bird prices - payment plans - keeping prices the same even after allowing for the increase in VAT.

I think the large increase in season ticket holders is proof that our prices offer value for money.

The structure of Aggborough Holdings, the holding company controlling Kidderminster Harriers…
Kidderminster Harriers FC has many 100's of shareholders who ultimately own the club.

Most shareholders only have a few shares but the majority of the shares - around 59% I think, are owned by Aggborough Holdings- a company originally set up after Lionel Newton left the club to ensure that on one person could ever own Kidderminster Harriers FC in the future.

Aggborough Holdings has 5 shareholders - Me, Wayne Allen, Keith Chandler, Barry Norgrove and the executors of the estate of the late Gordon Howard. Each has 1 share.

I am sure each individual would only act in the best interests of Kidderminster Harriers FC but after discussion at the last board meeting of Kidderminster Harriers FC - it was agreed to discuss the structure and initial talks will take place after the AGM for Aggborough Holdings on the 26th January 2012 before the AGM of Kidderminster Harriers FC.

If you have any further questions, Joe Hancox is more familiar with the structure and I suggest you ask them at the AGM on the 25th January at 7.30pm.

The recent link-up with Stourport Swifts…
The link with Stourport Swifts was agreed to help both parties - one of our academy teams would use the excellent facilities at Stourport Swifts and in return KHFC would loan squad players and academy players to Stourport.

KHFC also agreed to a supply a free page in our programme to help promote Stourport Swifts to our supporters and we agreed to an annual pre-season friendly with the first team squad. Unfortunately Stourport Swifts were not happy with the calibre of the players we offered to loan and so the agreement was cancelled. We continue to wish Stourport Swifts the very best for the rest of the season and we will hope to pursue a similar arrangement with another local club next season.
