WE bring you the Oktopus Interview for the very final time this season tonight, and sitting down with us before the game is Player of the Year Mark Creighton.

The defender has been grabbing plenty of headlines as of late - not only did he pick up the Supporters' Player of the Year award prior to our last home game against Histon, but he also outlined his commitment to Harriers' cause by agreeing a new two-year contract just under a week ago.

Taking a moment to reflect on his second season with the club, the former Sky employee admitted that there's been a marked improvement on the field since the turn of the year.

Indeed, the side have been beaten just twice in the last 12 games, leaving the home dressing room, overall, a much nicer place to be.

"The start of the season wasn't really nice; the club wasn't particularly a great place to be - not with regards to the people here - but because we were losing and heads were down, and we didn't know where goals and wins were going to come from," said Creighton.

"There's nothing really worse in football than that and it all seemed to hit us at once - but we had a decent spell over Christmas again and a couple of players left in January, and that was hard as I was close to them.

"But right now we're playing entertaining football and the last few months have been enjoyable, and it's easy to say that when you're winning, but the important thing is that we have the mentality now that's taking us to those wins."

The camaraderie within the camp at Aggborough has been a lot more evident in recent months, and this has played a huge part in what should be a positive end to the campaign for Mark Yates' side, according to former Redditch man Creighton.

The balance and mixture of players and personalities behind the scenes does as much to improve a team's form than the goals and results themselves, as he went on.

"At the moment we've got some really good characters in the dressing room," he continued.

"It isn't always about what happens on the pitch; it's what goes on off the pitch as well and how you get on.

"We see each other every single day so you have to have people getting on, and that's what we've got now.

"We've got a really good dressing room; you've got your comedians in there, your clever people in there as well as your thick people in there.

"The balance is there - we have a good laugh but we know where to draw the line; when it's time to work hard we work hard, and when it's time to have a laugh we'll have a laugh and the gaffer will have one with us.

"Stability is a massive thing, and that's one of the major reasons I want to stay here."

Creighton's Player of the Season award from Harriers' supporters is a second successive player crown for the centre-half, after he capped a memorable first term in the professional game with the same award this time last year.

Picking up the accolade again this season has meant a lot to Creighton, who called the achievement 'incredible'.

He went on to say: "Last year was unbelievable for me, coming up from nowhere to play every single minute of every game and playing at Wembley at the end of the season.

"I won Player of the Year and to win it again this year is incredible - anyone could tell you that it's so nice to be liked and respected and that's definitely something that goes a long way with me."

With 105 appearances to his name after just less than two seasons with Harriers, Creighton is likely to have turned out for the club more times than most in recent memory, come the end of his new deal.

Speaking on his growing affection for the club, he reflected on boss Mark Yates' role as Manager after making hundreds of appearances as a player, as well as holding the Captaincy, now in the possession of the towering defender.

Creighton explained: "There's no one that loves this club more than the gaffer - he's an ex-Captain and a local guy.

"The club does grow on you - I've been here for two seasons now and I've obviously signed for two more years and the longer I'm here the more I love the club.

"My family come down here for every game and they're well-known and liked here and they love it too, and that came into my decision also."

Harriers' final home game of the campaign comes against Nigel Clough's Burton Albion at Aggborough Stadium.

This evening's hosts fought hard and put in one of the performances of the season to get a 2-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium earlier in the campaign.

Creighton confessed that tonight is once again likely to be a tough one as Harriers come up against the Brewers, but with good form to maintain to the season's end, the men in red won't have any qualms about dealing a late blow in the play-off hopes of tonight's visitors.

"I've played against Nigel Clough's teams three or four times now and every time you come up against them, you know you're in for a tough game," he added.

"But I'd also like to think that we always give them a good game whenever we've come up against them - our record has been good against them, certainly while I've been here.

"We know it isn't going to be easy but we won't worry about wanting to upset their play-off hopes because we want to win the game, and any other game we play."
