Manager Mark Yates has challenged goalkeeper Dean Coleman to claim the first-choice goalkeeper's jersey next season.

The former Walsall shot-stopper agreed his new contract with Kidderminster Harriers on Thursday.

And speaking to the official website today, Yates put down the challenge to Coleman to make sure he works to become first-choice for 2008-09.

Fellow goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie's future is still not sorted, but the Harriers' boss admitted that regardless of who else dons the gloves next terms, their work will be cut out in going up against Coleman.

"Dean Coleman did excellently when he came in for us and I've got a lot of confidence in him.

"It's up to him to make himself the number one goalkeeper depending on what happens with Chris MacKenzie.

"Whoever our two goalkeepers are next season, it'll be a battle because Dean has come in and done really well, and I'm delighted he's signed.

"Chris and myself are just trying to get one or two things straight and whenever there's something to let the supporters know then we certainly will."

Coleman, Brian Smikle and Matthew Barnes-Homer have all been secure on contracts for next season - Simon Russell, Andy Ferrell and Iyseden Christie are the three remaining out-of-contract players to have been offered new deals.

Yates added: "We're nearly there with a couple but nothing has happened at the moment, hopefully it will over the next week or so.

"Players have got free reign to talk to as many clubs as they like and they exercise that right, we understand that.

"There's nothing to report yet but that certainly doesn't mean there's no work going on."
