AFTER opening his pre-season account against Plymouth on Friday night, striker Justin Richards has signalled his intention to find the back of the next regularly in the upcoming Blue Square Premier campaign.

Harriers continued their pre-season campaign with a deserved draw over Championship opposition a few nights ago, with Mark Yates' side producing some good football at both ends of the pitch.

Former Woking marksman Richards bagged seven goals in a red shirt last term before spending the second half of the campaign out on loan at Oxford United.

And he admitted that he's now back at Aggborough with one aim in mind.

"Everyone is coming in and training well and everyone is trying to impress and trying to make sure they're in that starting eleven for the first league game of the season," he said.

"I'm here to play football and I want to score goals, it's as simple as that."

"It was good to get a goal (on Friday), hopefully I can kick on from it now."

Reflecting on the Plymouth tie, Richards revealed that the team were a shade disappointed to have not won the fixture, with chances aplenty for the hosts, certainly in the second period.

"We were kind of disappointed not to have actually won the game but we put in a good performance, especially as there are a lot of players that don't really know each other," he continued.

"Plymouth showed the extra quality they have and they were very organised but I thought we did well and could have ran out winners in the end, especially with Knightsy hitting the bar near the end.

"We got stronger and started to gel as the game went on and that meant we made more chances."

The 27 year-old and the rest of the Harriers' camp are currently on their way to Devon to participate in this week's Errea South West Challenge Cup.

As well as seeing the benefits of the squad living and training together for at least the next five days, the ex-Peterborough forward pointed out that the benefits could last long into the new league term.

He added: "We'll be living in each other's pockets for five days to a week so we'll get to know one another very well.

"Hopefully we can get to know more about how we all play and having that togetherness will help.

"We may have a smaller squad for the season than most, but everyone starts on zero points - maybe we can go out and surprise a few people?"
