GOALSCORER Martin Brittain was pleased to cap a fine debut performance with a goal yesterday - after admitting he'd been itching to get in on the action.

The former Newcastle United winger impressed hugely on trial with Harriers in the summer, and gave fans exciting glimpses of his abilities in three substitute appearances in the Blue Square Premier.

But after being let loose on Altrincham for a full league debut yesterday, he played a direct part in two Harriers' goals, as well as scoring another.

"I haven't started a game before but I've been coming off the bench and I think I was doing well," Brittain said after the match.

"Today I got my start and hopefully I can keep my place for the next game.

"I was really pleased that we got an early lead from Mark, I went on to score which rounded my day off, it was good.

"I've been itching to play - I've been getting some good time on the pitch off the bench but I was pleased to start and it's done wonders for my fitness.

"We played well against Mansfield in the second half last weekend and we've done very well here so hopefully our season is underway now."

Harriers are now charged with keeping up the momentum and getting a result away at Burton Albion tomorrow.

Nothing comes on the cheap at the Pirelli, but Brittain and his team mates will not want today's emphatic victory to become meaningless come tea time on Bank Holiday Monday.

"We've got to get up (the league), and we've definitely got the quality.

"We have that first win now and our goal difference has improved a bit, so we can take it from here.

"We know Burton will be decent on Monday but if we can take this performance through, hopefully we can get a win."
