Boss Mark Yates is hopeful of tying up the services of on-loan youngster Lee Baker and non-contract player Keith Lowe on longer-term deals within the coming days.

Left-back Baker has enjoyed a good start to the season on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies' defender missed all of last season through injury but, despite missing two early games at Harriers at the start of this campaign, has looked strong in first-team action.

Lowe, meanwhile, signed on a non-contract basis late last Friday, after spending a spell with the club in pre-season.

The former Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers man has been a figure of composure at right-back, impressing in the Bank Holiday fixtures against Altrincham and Burton Albion.

Yates today admitted that he's hopeful of securing the services of Lowe on a more permanent basis ahead of the weekend's home clash with Rushden and Diamonds.

"That will be tomorrow, hopefully," commented the Aggborough boss.

"We have a board meeting tonight where I'm going to clear up one or two things with the Chairman.

"We're hoping to have Keith on board - he can pass the ball, he can play forward with a bit of quality but most of all he's a rugged defender.

"Hopefully he'll be a good addition for us."

"I think Lee's been great," Yates added of Baker, whose initial loan spell with the club is due to end next week.

"He'll make us play but he's a decent defender, a good size and he can compete in the air.

"I've said to him that I think he's done well, but after about six or eight games we'll expect more from him.

"That's when I think he'll be stronger and sharper after recovering from his injury - he'll be miles better for having those games inside him.

"I've spoken to the Director of Football at West Bromwich Albion and we're trying to extend Lee's deal until January."
