Justin Staying Focused
JUSTIN RICHARDS insists that eyes will be firmly on the job in hand at Eastbourne Borough this weekend, and not on the Blue Square Premier league table.
Much of the talk since Harriers' 2-0 midweek win over York City at Aggborough has been of the team's third placed position in the league - the highest position they've held since returning back to non-league football in 2005.
A victory at new-boys Eastbourne at the weekend could see them move level on points with current leaders Crawley - whilst the hugely competitive division could just as easily shift Harriers back down to 11th place allowing for certain results.
That's why no one inside Aggborough is getting carried away just yet - and a nonchalant Richards brushed off suggestions of whether or not the pressure would be on the minds of the players come kick-off this weekend.
"I guess it would be... but at the same time, you enter every game wanting to win," he insisted.
"We'd rather have the pressure of being able to go top than having to get out of the relegation zone, so we're happy with that."
Harriers' strong possession was brought about by their fifth victory in six matches against Colin Walker's Minstermen,
Front man Richards - who grabbed a brace in the same fixture at Aggborough last term, admitted that the boys responded well to their own headed half-time team talk.
"The team spirit is really good in the camp," he continued.
"We had a bit of a go at each other at half-time because we didn't really get out of the blocks in the first half.
"But we came out, looked solid at the back and apart from Adam pulling off one brilliant save, we weren't really troubled."
Despite grabbing the second goal in injury-time, a critical Richards added: "I still think I could've given a bit more in possession of the ball, I gave it away a few times when usually I keep hold of it.
"York were competitive in the back and decent aerially - they competed well and I felt if we played more behind them we may have had a bit more joy but, who cares? We won 2-0."
