BOSS Mark Yates admits that although his future clearly sits elsewhere, it was great to have Lee Hughes back in a Kidderminster shirt at Stourport last night.
Something of a modern-times Harriers legend, front man Hughes began his career at Aggborough in the 90s before hitting the big time with the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City.
A free agent this summer, he's in negotiations with a number of Football League clubs and remains some way out of Harriers' reach.
But that has not stopped the striker enjoying a spell back where it all started - after a few training sessions he finally put on a shirt for the first half of last night's 4-1 win.
He didn't get on the score sheet but his ability was evident. Boss Yates admits he'll try and get another game or two out of the ex-Oldham man, but the player himself has enough to consider.
"He was just a little bit frustrated at times because he was making moves and runs and things weren't quite coming off," said Yates of Hughes.
"But we've helped him out and he's helped us out and it was good to have him out there.
"I'll have a chat with Lee tomorrow and we'll see what happens with regards to our upcoming games.
"I know he has a few things on the back-burner but we're quite light up-top apart from the boys we're having a look at, it was a good opportunity for him to come along and get a game for us."
He added: "It's been great to have him as you can tell he's been at a decent level.
"His enthusiasm and quality was there for all to see."
On trial duo Rob Elvins and Aaron Farrell were both on the score sheet at Walshes Meadow - Yates is due to decide the fate of some of his summer squad later this week, but won't be hurried into anything.
"We are not in any rush to make big decisions," he continued.
"We're in tomorrow and we'll have a chat with a few of the boys but I'm looking at the bigger picture as well as individuals.
"We'll make decisions that are right for the squad and right for the football club - that's my job."
Four more goals were added to Harriers' pre-season tally last night - Yates commenting: "It was another run-out for the boys and another little test for them.
"It was pleasing for us but again it's just all about getting game time out there on the pitch.
"We split the sides a bit differently tonight but it was a good work-out."
