YATES: Tough Decisions Ahead
MARK Yates admits that decisions over which of his trial crop to offer contracts to got even more difficult after Tuesday night's 3-2 win over Hereford United.
Harriers bossed the game against the League Two promotion hopefuls and led 3-0 going into the final stage of the game before the Bulls pulled back a quick-fire double.
Matthew Barnes-Homer, Brian Smikle and Aaron Farrell grabbed the hosts' goals, but among the other strongest performers were the remaining trialists from front to back.
Speaking after the game, a contented Yates admitted that he's got a difficult few days ahead.
Reflecting on the game, he said: "I just asked the boys to keep the work-rate going and they did that - we showed a lot of quality, worked our socks off and put them under pressure.
"The boys have done well tonight. We're looking at many, many things at the moment and I have got some decisions to make because I've got some decent players here.
"I just thought our work-rate was excellent and that, together with the fact that we competed very well, gave us the confidence to get the ball down and pass it and I thought we knocked it about really well.
"We're not going to get carried away on tonight but one or two of the boys have come in and given me food for thought.
"It's that time where I've got to say 'no' to one or two but there are also some there who deserve something."
The new Blue Square Premier draws closer and Yates is still in need of several new additions.
Whilst the situation isn't perfect he's keen to stress that things are slowly coming together, and patience remains key.
"In an ideal world I'd have my squad sorted by now but we haven't - that's not a problem," he added.
"We have one or two irons in the fire that aren't here as we speak - we're waiting on a couple of answers and some things to happen and we're hoping they'll happen sooner rather than later."
