Steve Burr has said that Marc Goodfellow's arrival at Aggborough on Monday brought to an end a career-long pursuit of the experienced former Stoke winger.

Goodfellow signed on at Aggborough on loan for the rest of the season prior to the transfer deadline yesterday, and the manager couldn't have been happier to have finally landed his man.

Speaking to harriers.co.uk about his new signing, Burr stated that the Burton Albion man now has a chance to impress, with his Brewers' contract up at the end of the current campaign.

"Marc is a player I have followed for a while actually, from way back when I first started out in management and he was at Stoke City," he told harriers.co.uk.

"I've always followed his career and tried to get him on loan quite a few times but never quite managed to.

"Looking at the squad here, we don't really have any out-and-out wide men and Marc will give us a bit of width. He's an exciting player and he can go by defenders.

"I tried to get him while I was at Stalybridge this season but he opted to go to Barrow which I knew would be the case and he had a very successful period there.

"His contract is up with Burton at the end of the season so we're taking a look at him.

"He has a bit of stability here now in that he knows he'll be here with us until the end of the season and getting games so it gives him a real opportunity and a chance to try and get something with us for next season as well."

The arrival of another winger at Aggborough reflects Burr's preferred style of wing play - he went on to admit that this is a system he has tried and tested to a fair degree of success over the course of his career and clearly it is something he's now looking to replicate with Harriers.

He added: "I have perhaps leaned towards width and that's produced success for me wherever I've been.

"I'm not a great lover of a man playing in the hole and that type of thing - for me, that's not really a position.

"But that isn't to say we will never use that system because circumstances may dictate that at some point we may have to but I'm more for players playing in positions where they're more familiar, and width can sometimes be important, too."

There was one in, one out for Harriers yesterday as Goodfellow arrived and defender Liam Dolman agreed a loan switch to Corby Town.

Burr had been hopeful that this would not conclude his business for the day, but he this afternoon revealed he had been thwarted in his attempts to further boost his squad.

"There were a couple of players I was hoping to get in but I think it has been more the case that problems at the club they're at have rather restricted that," he continued.

"That doesn't stop me perhaps going back in for them in the week after next when the loan window re-opens.

"It would have been nice in an ideal situation to have got them here before Saturday but we're going to have to wait a little now."
