Steve Burr has admitted that James Lawrie's enthusiasm to join Kidderminster Harriers was the big pull in getting the 19 year-old hot shot to Aggborough.
Speaking to your official website on the day we've confirmed that Lawrie - a full Northern Ireland International striker - will become a Kidderminster player next week, Burr stated that the youngster had little doubt about wanting to join up with us on a temporary basis.
And that eagerness has delighted the manager - who praised the youngster's attitude.
He explained: "I spoke to a club last week about bringing a player in, a centre forward, and the reply was that the lad wanted time to 'think it over.'
"That alone was enough to say to me that he wasn't hungry enough to come and get games and play for this club.
"James jumped at the chance in that respect, as did Marc Goodfellow.
"There was no going back and forth for either of those lads and that is a very important thing for us."
Promising front man Lawrie has not been a regular fixture in Vale's starting eleven in League Two this year but he is still tipped to have a very bright future at the club.
Burr is more than satisfied that the youngster can help bring a few more goals to the side. With Chris McPhee - normally a midfielder - tied at nine goals apiece with former front man Matthew Barnes-Homer at the peak of the scoring charts at Aggborough, it is clear that the new boy's brief is to find the back of the net.
Burr added: "He hasn't played much football for Vale's first team for one reason or another but I have seen him play and he has always been amongst the goals at reserve team level.
"Bringing him here will hopefully add that bit more quality to the squad and it is a chance for him to come here and show us what he is capable of.
"The lad is a good footballer and a good scorer and, looking at the stats here, this is something we could do a bit better at.
"It is very pleasing for us to be scoring goals from all areas of the field but James can perhaps give us that little bit more incision in the final third.
"Hopefully he can be good for us as we can be good for him."
However, it is unlikely that striker Damian Spencer will remain a Harriers player when his current deal here officially expires on February 26.
Still locked into a deal with parent club Kettering, Harriers are out of options with a view to keeping the player in Worcestershire.
"Damian is on a very good contract at Kettering and he has another year to run," said the manager.
"We were hoping to tie something up until the end of the season but unfortunately we haven't been able to - those are just the circumstances."
