The following interview is re-produced for the interest of supporters here on harriers.co.uk from our match day programme. The article appears as printed in the 13 March issue v Stevenage Borough and will contain dated references to the game.
As the new faces continue to arrive here at Aggborough Stadium, we took time out to get to know another of our fresh recruits ahead of today's FA Trophy tie with Stevenage in grabbing 'a word with' Jack Byrne.
Byrne, a promising young 20 year-old midfielder, finally signed a deal until the end of the season at the club late last week after leaving Redditch United.
A player much-fancied by boss Steve Burr, Byrne has been tipped as one for the future by the Aggborough chief, who was quick to snap up his services after getting the chance to view the player up close in training recently.
"It's a great move for me - it is a chance for me to prove myself at that next level - I'm very happy," Jack said.
"I had been training with the lads here for a couple of weeks but after the first couple of weeks the gaffer said to me that he wanted to sign me so I was happy.
"I wasn't really expecting it - more than anything I was expecting it to be more for next season but I am delighted with the move because it is a great chance for me."
Byrne joins a Harriers side going well in the Blue Square Premier and into the last four of the FA Trophy - chalk and cheese in comparison to what he's left behind in Blue Square North outfit Redditch, who are in something of a season of struggle.
Though pushing Kettering Town to their very limits in an FA Cup clash earlier this campaign, the Reds face a battle to make a success out of the 2009/10 campaign, though their now former player has plenty of faith in them.
"It has been up and down - we started the season really poorly," reflects the former Stratford Town man.
"We didn't gel as quickly as we wanted to really and obviously things got changed around and a few new fresh faces came in and we took Kettering all the way in the FA Cup.
"Over two ties we really deserved to get through, although obviously on the back of the run James Dance has got his move and there has been about seven or eight players leave Redditch since the turn of the New Year.
"So it has been really tough but I have got great faith in the lads and I think they will stay up."
Although FA Trophy tied, Byrne is sure to get his chance in the Blue Square Premier as Harriers look to cram in a hellish fixture list between now and the conclusion of the campaign.
Both player and manager have admitted that what he does in that space of time will determine his more long-term future at Aggborough, but the local lad is determined not to rush into anything after being more than welcomed by his new team mates.
He added: "I have only signed until the end of the season so obviously I am going to take it step by step and if I get my chance hopefully I can take it and get something for next season. I can't really look further than that.
"There is a great bunch of lads here and some really good, young players with a lot of potential and from what I've seen a number of them could make a step up.
"I have settled in straight from the word go and there were no problems - I've heard of a few of the boys through other players I know and it is a dressing room where everyone gets on and morale is high."
What exactly can Harriers expect from this central midfield prodigy, then? Goals, it would seem - at least if his recent form is anything to go by.
He's become something of a regular scorer in a struggling Redditch outfit, and quite naturally finding the back of the net is a habit he'd very much like to continue as he etches out his Kidderminster Harriers career.
"To be fair, when I first started in non-league I wasn't really scoring that much -I was more of player who created things for others," he went on to reveal.
"But over the last couple of seasons I have been playing regularly and I have brought quite a few goals into my game and hopefully I can keep doing that here.
"I don't know too much about what it will be like to play at this level yet but it is all about working hard and paying your dues so if I can keep doing what I'm doing, it will come off for me."
