TIED UP: Jack on Board for 2010/11

Posted on: Fri 19 Mar 2010

Harriers are pleased to confirm that young midfielder Jack Byrne has put pen to paper on a new longer-term contract with the club this afternoon.

Jack has been at Aggborough for a couple of months now, first training under the watchful eye of boss Steve Burr whilst featuring for Blue Square North side Redditch United.

Burr swooped to make him a Kidderminster player, originally until the end of the season, back at the beginning of this month.

But after impressing further in training and making a fine debut away at Luton in midweek, the youngster has been tied up on a permanent contract until the end of next season.

"Jack has impressed me as a Redditch player and also since he's been here. He's been great on the training ground and took his opportunity at Luton on Tuesday night really well," the manager told harriers.co.uk this afternoon.

"All-round, he's a great lad and one we definitely feel has a bright future.

"He is hungry to do well - I have liked what I've seen from him and there is a lot we can work on with him as well."

Byrne himself added: "I enjoyed the Luton game - I've never played in front of a big crowd like that before.

"My hard work doesn't stop here, you keep progressing as a player on the training ground and in games and I'm looking forward to doing that; if I can cement a first-team place that would be great.

"There are a great bunch of lads here and the morale is still high despite a couple of defeats just lately."

Burr went on to admit he hopes he'll soon be in a position to tie up other members of his current squad on to deals for next season, with the summer rush not too far away.

He commented: "It is early days yet in terms of knowing what we have to work with but when the time is right we will be looking to sit down with one or two to discuss some longer-term deals."
