PREVIEW: Harriers v Stevenage
The long wait is over for Harriers as in just a matter of hours they can finally lock horns with Stevenage Borough in the FA Carlsberg Trophy semi-final, first leg at Aggborough tomorrow.
With no midweek fixture, Harriers have been able to concentrate on training ahead of the big game against Graham Westley's competition favourites.
Whilst they were doing so, Borough were hitting Barrow for four in midweek as they made it 12 goals in three straight League wins to reclaim top spot in the Blue Square Premier
And they're not just concentrating on the title, either - with a chance to sample the Wembley Stadium magic once again, Stevenage will be going all out to ensure they at least have a chance to directly defend the title they reclaimed at the national stadium by downing York in last season's final.
So it all comes down to Aggborough tomorrow - nothing will be won or lost in this first leg but it very much the chance for either both sides to ensure they're at least still involved come the second tie, or more likely to forge ahead and pick up a big advantage going into next weekend's return at the Lamex.
It's a time of great excitement for Harriers fans, and the occasion is hardly lost on the dressing room either. Speaking ahead of the game, assistant boss John Finnigan knows only too well what awaits his side tomorrow, but is urging them to chase their Final dream.
"They've done well - they're well organised and they're a strong side," he said, looking ahead to tomorrow's visitors.
"The gaffer went to watch them on Tuesday night so we know a bit about them and what to expect from them.
"So we've done our homework and we're training well and we're looking forward to it.
"We're one step away [from Wembley] now and I'm sure the Stevenage boys feel the same way.
"It's a great carrot dangling in front of us and we've got to work hard to make sure we get to it."
Boss Steve Burr will be without the services of the Trophy tied Marc Goodfellow for tomorrow's game, whilst new signing Jack Byrne will have to continue his wait for a debut after turning out for Redditch in a previous round.
Finnigan himself will be given a late fitness test as he looks to overcome a calf strain, whilst Gavin Caines should be okay after a week's training through his Achilles tendonitis.
Adam Boyes could well continue after starting at Eastbourne last weekend after Scunthorpe United granted him permission to turn out in the Trophy - the striker was part of the York side who lost out at the final hurdle last term.
Stevenage, meanwhile, may bring back winger Mitchell Cole after he was rested for their midweek success, whilst top scorer Yemi Odubade will continue his quest for more goals up top.
Kick-off tomorrow is at 3:00pm.
