STOCKPORT TRIP NEXT UP

Posted on: Fri 27 Jan 2012

Harriers' former Hatter James Vincent looks likely to miss out on a chance to go up against his old club on Saturday as the reds head to Edgeley Park in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

The midfield man, who joined Harriers after being released by County this past summer, is one of three players currently within the squad currently struggling with a knee injury.

Admittedly Vincent is the closest of the trio to being fit - Jack Byrne and Lee Vaughan look more likely to be in contention for the FA Trophy game against Luton next weekend - but time is running out for him to prove his fitness.

Harriers, otherwise, are in good health going into this trip and will be keen to do what they can to extend the gap between themselves and those chasing the play-off spaces; the gap currently two points following Tuesday night's results that saw Harriers and York (fifth and fourth) draw whilst Gateshead (sixth) lose at Kettering Town.

Winger James McQuilkin, midway through a one-month's loan spell from Hereford United, will likely be pushing hard for a start after coming off the bench against the Minstermen to net the all-important goal.

Newest signing Anthony Malbon continues to impress as a sub, too, and will battle with the likes of Steve Guinan to make the starting eleven.

Speaking ahead of the game, boss Steve Burr says has expressed his surprise at County's current league position - Jim Gannon's men hovering around the relegation zone.

This after they had come to Aggborough and battled out a 1-1 draw back in August and looked hugely impressive.

Burr said: "I thought they were a decent side here and I am very surprised at where they find themselves in the table.

"They came early in the season and looked a very useful team indeed.

"But we are on a good run at the moment and the lads are full of confidence.

"Hopefully we can keep on pushing on and progressing like we have been doing - there have been a lot of good individual performances as well as how well the team are playing at the minute."

Kick-off at Stockport's Edgeley Park on Saturday kicks-off at 3:00pm.
