Mistakes yet again proved to be all too costly for Kidderminster Harriers as they let a seemingly assured victory over Crawley Town slip through their fingers.
It's a thing of amazing luck that sixth place in the BSP still sits within a win's reach of Harriers after this game. For the second time inside just a handful of days, the side have dropped points in drawing against two sides they should have beaten. Add those four to the points total of 21 they currently have and Harriers should be in that's sixth spot, sitting pretty ahead of the rest of the half and also breathing down the necks of those in the top five.
But goals change games - and so do mistakes. Northwich were allowed back into Tuesday's game and thus chances of victory were snared away - likewise today, in one of the poorest games of the season at Aggborough, the hosts had taken the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances and nothing and nobody looked like changing the likely 1-0 win. That was until the opportunistic Guy Madjo made like James Constable and grabbed his tenth goal of the season after he caught Chris MacKenzie napping - poor indeed from MacKenzie, but the fact that it was left more to the home crowd of 1,400 fans to alert the goalkeeper to the strikers presence rather than any of the outfield players says it all.
Nobody has any doubt that Harriers have what it takes to be in amongst those at the business end - but as the old saying goes, you don't make a living on potential, and Harriers are fortunate that it's still within their own hands to keep in touch - though victory on Tuesday against Halifax now seems imperative.

BAYES BEATEN: Jimmy celebrates goal number ten against Crawley
You could tell from the outset that this was never going to be a pretty game and it was even less likely to be a feast of goals and as such the early stages weren't kind on the eye.
Gavin Hurren picked up a booking just eleven minutes into his return from a three-match ban for a meaty challenge on Jamie Stevens, quite the way to signal his return! Hurren also went close with the day's first chance, a 16th minute header from a Harkness cross that sailed over the bar.
Pablo Mills was one of Crawley's better performers on the day; he headed wide from a well-worked free-kick for the Red Devils, before being at the other end to flick aside an attempt on goal for Justin Richards ten minutes before the break.
When Penn was forced to blaze wide with just five minutes left in the half it seemed like a goal would come through nothing but divine intervention - cue then the goal scoring god of CONSTABLE - the Harriers' top scorer was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on a fortunate deflection from Michael Blackwood's cross, heading high over the head of Ashley Bayes and into the back of the net.
That itself was on the stroke of half-time but even closer to the interval, a hard-working Richards almost made it two after he thumped an effort from another Blackwood shot against the bar - it looked to have crossed the line though the goal wasn't given and the visitors gratefully cleared.

Well into the second half, Richards was again a danger as he forced a very good save from Bayes at his near post; and the former Peterborough man came within an inch of grabbing his sixth of the campaign.
Good work from Brian Smikle saw Penn played in, his low cross was rolled along the face of goal - Richards had his boot outstretched but just missed the ball.
Just a minute later with 70 played the scores were levelled as Crawley were gifted their equaliser. MacKenzie causally collected possession from a visiting cross but failed to check behind him before re-starting play, therefore not seeing a certain former Stafford man laying in wait. There was a distinct lack of a warning call from his team mates, and blissfully unaware, MacKenzie rolled the ball out but before he could clear, MADJO sneaked in, rounded the shot-stopper and slotted into the empty net.
Deflated, there wasn't much going forward for the hosts and you could tell Constable's 83rd minute effort was a rare one, he had his head in his hands after turning and hooking the ball wide of goal. Appeals for a late penalty were waved away as Mills hacked down Constable in the area.
