Rampant Kidderminster Harriers secured their second win in 48 hours as they comfortably overcame promotion-hopefuls Cambridge United at the Abbey.

It was a real smash and grab effort from Harriers, with Matthew Barnes-Homer grabbing a cool brace and Iyseden Christie slotting home his 13th of the season from the penalty spot.

The hosts were stronger from the off, and had a great chance to score after just six minutes, but skipper Mark Creighton got stuck in with a superb tackle to deny Jack Jeffery as he shaped to shoot.

Dean Coleman looked slightly nervous between the sticks as he started his first game of 2008, but grew stronger and stronger as the game went on.

But after Christie, Dean Bennett and Darryl Knights all went close for the visitors, it was United's rookie shot-stopper Alex McCarthy who was left badly exposed for the first goal of the day; Christie nodded the ball into the path of BARNES-HOMER who burst through on goal, sliding the ball under the goalkeeper after indecision from Mark Peters.

Cambridge had the ball in the back of the net nine minutes before the break but Josh Coulson's effort was disallowed after a foul in the area. Shortly after, Christie came close to repeating his opening goal from Thursday night as he lobbed McCarthy from distance - this time the ball nestled on top of the net.

The hosts came out looking a lot more lively after the break, and just ten minutes into the half Mark Yates made two changes with Brian Smikle and Andy Ferrell coming on for Darryl Knights and Simon Russell.

Five after the hour mark, Stephen Reed went within inches of equalising as he fired an effort from more than 30 yards that flew just wide of Coleman's upright.

Cambridge were made to pay for that miss, as barely over a minute later Harriers were 2-0 up. United just couldn't handle Smikle after his introduction, and it was he who wriggled free in the six yard box before outfoxing McCarthy by slipping the ball out to BARNES-HOMER who had the simple task of hitting home.

On 75 minutes, former Harrier Wayne Hatswell forced good handling from Coleman with a low effort from distance. He was beaten by livewire Smikle at the other end ten minutes later, and even though the former West Brom winger got up from Hatswell's foul in the box to slam the ball home past McCarthy, the referee drew play back and awarded the penalty.

CHRISTIE was composed from the spot five minutes from the end and beat the young goalkeeper to keep his scoring run going.

Harriers are in action again this coming Tuesday 1st April when we entertain Ebbsfleet United at Aggborough. Don't forget prices have been slashed by £3 for this match, so we hope to see you there.
