Weymouth win 3-0 on Penalties
Dreams of making it through to a second successive FA Trophy Final were crushed in heartbreaking style at Aggborough tonight as Harriers' quest for revenge ended at the hands of Weymouth, and a penalty shoot-out.
In a very open game, it was the hosts who twice came from behind in normal time to level matters. Sloppy defending from a corner allowed Michael Malcolm to score with just six minutes gone, though Jeff Kenna's superb free-kick made it 1-1 five minutes after the break.
An appalling mistake four minutes after the hour saw skipper Stuart Whitehead spin 360 degrees on a ball but still miss-kick it, leaving Malcolm free to slot home an easy second - top scorer James Constable came to the rescue six minutes later as his 14th of the season saw him round Jason Matthews - probably the night's Man of the Match for the neutral - and slot home.
30 minutes of extra time failed to break the 2-2 deadlock, and so on it went to penalties. Harriers, who spent time practising their spot-kicks in the build-up to the game, missed three poor efforts, with Matthew's pulling off two saves from Constable and Richards; Christie firing over the bar first of all.
The Terras meanwhile were too cool on the spot and Vernazza, Coutts and Douglas all beat Bevan convincingly to make it a 3-0 win on penalties. Weymouth roll on, whilst Harriers crash out.
