BURTON ALBION 3-2 HARRIERS
KIDDERMINSTER Harriers' interest in the Setanta Shield was ended at Burton Albion as a late free-kick from Jody Banim condemned Mark Yates' men to a 3-2 defeat.
The home side took the lead after just six minutes with Shaun Harrad given a free header at a corner to power past Dean Coleman - but the lively David McDermott capped a fine performance for Harriers by levelling matters with a well-worked move on 26 minutes before Darryl Knights rounded goalkeeper Saul Deeney - who had earlier been lucky to stay on the field after a last-man foul on Stefan Moore - to hand the visitors the lead just two minutes before the break.
After dominating most of the first half, Harriers were made to pay for switching off at a set-play once again just five minutes after the re-start, skipper Ryan Austin finished from close-range after Aaron Webster headed down Banim's corner kick.
Both teams pressed forward with Darryl Knights going close and McDermott and Moore both forcing saves, but it was the Brewers who had the last word as ex-Droylsden man Banim curled home a fine fee-kick from 20 yards that left Coleman helpless.
There was a late first-team debut for Youth Team starlet Nathan Hayward - Harriers now go forward to this weekend's FA Cup First Round clash with Cambridge at Aggborough.
