One late slip undid 85 minutes of solid work for Harriers as they were denied three points on the road by a late leveller at Histon in the Blue Square Premier.

It was a reasonably even first ten minutes with Harriers perhaps edging it by forcing a number of early corners, looking to test a nervous-looking home defence.

It took until around the 18 minute mark for the game to get its first chance of intent - Histon stood off Dean Bennett as he charged towards goal, the midfielder trying one from more than 20 yards that flew some way wide.

Michael Frew played in Nathaniel Knight-Percival on 23 minutes for Histon's first opportunity on goal, it was a well-worked move but Dean Coleman held well at close-range.

The first half came to life ten minutes before its end as Harriers struck first blood, perhaps against the run of play - hard work from Darryl Knights on the edge of the area saw the ball poked to Chris McPhee who turned and lashed an angled drive into the corner of the net from 18 yards, Naisbitt helpless.

The home side almost responded immediately as within minutes Josh Simpson did well to strike on the turn, the ball heading over the line before Coleman got down well to get a firm grip on it.

Within a couple of minutes of the re-start Harriers had a golden chance to double their lead after McPhee burst through one-on-one with Naisbitt - the bounce of the ball was against the midfield man as he looked to strike it on the volley but he hit it well enough, the goalkeeper able to parry with a defender only too happy to clear the line.

Before the hour mark Histon had made a double change as they looked to fight their way back into the reckoning but the visitors continued to battle away, David McDermott and McPhee charging down a lost cause to make sure Naisbitt was kept on his toes.

On 63 minutes it was McPhee at the centre of things again for Mark Yates' men as he was fed the ball near the penalty spot - he looked to once again shoot on the turn but slipped just as he did so, Smikle's resultant effort then held by the goalkeeper.

Home sub Craig Hammond perhaps should have done better on 70 minutes as he lashed at an angled effort from around the six-yard mark, it few across goal and had Coleman beaten but the velocity took it far over the bar.

With 77 minutes gone Harriers had a second goal chalked off for offside as they continued to pepper the home goal with chances, Knights soon after firing over a decent free-kick.

After dealing with direct ball after direct ball it was nightmare stuff on 85 minutes as desperate Histon got back on level terms - one long ball over the top looked to have been dealt with as Riley shielded it towards Coleman, only to crouch down and head it past him at the last, much to the glee of Hammond who picked up and rolled it into the empty net.

Only a fine save from Coleman stopped Simpson from putting his side into an undeserved lead a couple of minutes later after he surged past Gavin Caines and drove one towards goal, Jamie Barker then hitting over in injury time.
