Harriers took advantage of home comforts on Tuesday night as two goals in four second half minutes put promotion hopefuls Wrexham to the sword at Aggborough.

Harriers started the game at a frantic pace, hassling an harrying their opponents, forcing a large number of corners, pressure gradually builing.

With that said, it was the visitors who were more accurate with the early pressing - with just five minutes gone, Mark Jones curled one towards goal from 18 yards that Coleman held well.

Ten minutes later Coleman was at full stretch to once again deny Jones - from around the same distance the Wrexham man bent one towards the top corner that only Coleman's fingertips got to to claw it over.

An evenly contested beginning erupted into an early flashpoint just a minute later - Silvio Spann went in hard with a needless lunge on David McDermott on the half way line. It marked the end to the night for both players - Spann given a straight red card as McDermott was left to leave the pitch on a stretcher looking distraught.

That prompted a stalemate period in the game and it wasn't until the half hour that Wrexham 'stopper Chris Maxwell had anything to do - Darryl Knights' low drive held just prior to Duane Courtney going close.

Harriers had the ball in the back of the net as the first half rolled into injury time - Robbie Matthews getting up well to nod in what would have been his first in club colours, only for the referee to chalk the effort off after spotting a foul.

Three minutes into the second period it was almost same again - this time Matthews beat the goalkeeper in the air but his header trickled just wide of the empty net.

With 52 minutes on the clock Harriers finally drew first blood - an excellent forward move saw the ball headed across goal by Matthews into the feet of in-form Brian Smikle who, on the volley, smashed it passed Maxwell from close range.

Within a four-minute flash it was 2-0 as Harriers went for the throat - Wrexham had been solid defensively all evening prior, but made a real hash of clearing their lines on the 56 minute mark, Robbie Matthews making them pay with a firm angled volley that snapped in off the post.

Ten minutes further on, Wrexham's sub Wes Baynes had a shot wide of goal as he capped a neat passing move from the visitors as they stayed brave and kept the ball down on the deck - moments after at the other end, Martin Riley sent a header over the bar from a corner.

With a quarter hour to go, just after Barnes-Homer fizzed an effort just across the face of goal, Wrexham almost pulled one back but found 'keeper Coleman in inspired form. A simple centre looked to have given the predatory Marc Williams a goal on a plate, but his low shot was superbly kept out by the stopper; the forward quickly pounced the re-bound but equally as quickly, Coleman was there to complete the double save.

As the game headed to a close, the visitors edged further into things once more after adopting a more attacking formation to try and claw something back - as it was the only real remaining chance fell to the home side in the final minutes.

Spotting a floored Maxwell off his line, Barnes-Homer tried his luck from some 30 yards but the ball flew wide of the upright.

Back to winning ways for Harriers, then, and finally just rewards for another solid performance.
