With much of the BSP in FA Cup action, Harriers wasted the chance to get some points on the board as they crashed to a poor 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon at Aggborough on Saturday.

Harriers started the game with debutant Damian Spencer in the starting line-up, Liam Dolman filling in at full-back for Duane Courtney who missed out through illness.

Spencer almost made an instant impact, going close in the first minute as he charged into the area and drove an angled shot over the bar of Seb Brown.

The visiting Dons had their first chance of the afternoon on the back of an evenly-contested opening quarter-hour, Steven Gregory firing some way over Dean Coleman's bar after being teed up on the edge of the area.

On 19 minutes it was the visitors who broke the deadlock but from Harriers it was another gifted goal - a driven through-ball down the middle of the park beat Caines, and was latched on to by the surging Danny Kedwell who rounded the stranded Coleman before slotting into the far corner of the net.

It took until the 28th minute for Harriers to finally work Brown - a powerful header down on the edge of the area by Robbie Matthews evaded Spencer but fell for Smikle, who drove a shot straight at the stopper, though losing his footing as he did so.

The home side, losing too much in the air and on the ground, were dealt a further blow nine minutes prior to the interval, Robbie Matthews' yellow card for a foul on Paul Lorraine was his fifth of the season, meaning he'll sit out Tuesday's game with Tamworth.

It was a half-chance each for both sides within five minutes of the re-start, after Dolman had struck into Brown's arms from distance, sub Jon Main fired over the bar with a good effort for Wimbledon.

It was a double change for Harriers a little under the 55th minute mark, a debut for Ryan Charles as he replaced Spencer, Darryl Knights also withdrawn in favour of David McDermott.

The hour mark came and went and Brown's goal remained untested as Harriers just failed to find any penetration whatsoever through a determined rearguard - they were also wasteful from set-pieces and were lucky not to be punished when, from defending a 68th minute corner, the Dons charged upfield and went close.

Boss Mark Yates took off Dolman and threw on Aaron Farrell for the final minutes of the game but it was the visitors who almost added to their lead as Jay Conroy's excellent 30-yard drive flashed just over Coleman's frame on 86.

The final whistle drew to a close a poor second half and to bring to an end a dire affair for Harriers as they were beaten on home soil without forcing so much as a single save of real meaning from the Dons' goalkeeper.
