Steve Guinan struck twice as Harriers made comfortable progress to the Third Round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy on Saturday with a 5-1 Aggborough win over Blue Square Bet North side Droylsden.
Looking to banish the memories of tricky cup exploits against North opposition earlier this season Harriers were off like a flash in this one - quickly peppering the goal with half-chances going off target for Mickey Demetriou and Jamille Matt.
With just seven minutes that bright start got its reward as the home side took the lead; Daniel Bradley's effort from 20 yards was directed with real precision but was hardy struck with tremendous power so it was a little surprising to see goalkeeper Paul Phillips misjudge it completely and dive down after it only to watch the ball roll past his palm for Bradley's first goal for the club.
On 19 minutes the Bloods' Steve Hall tried his luck from distance as if to equal Bradley's attempt but his effort was some way firmer and drew a good save from Harriers' stopper Dean Lyness.
A little under ten minutes later Harriers almost paid the price for failing to clear their lines - a game of pinball ensued inside the area and in the end it was Droylsden's Ciaran Kilheeney who turned and volleyed it towards goal, his shot rising just over the angle of bar and post.
Just after the half-hour mark a lightening counter-attack almost made it 2-0; but Phillips was brave and out quickly to deny the efforts of Steve Guinan and then Hankin as they shot from close range.
On 34 minutes though Phillips could do nothing about the reds getting that second goal, another strong breakaway from Harriers was this time capped by Nick Wright's sensational drive from outside the area that sailed perfectly into the goal; another strike for a front-man in form.
The celebrations were relatively short-lived, mind you - just six minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back through what can only be described as one off the training ground, Hall rounded off a neat move by rising to head the ball across Lyness and into the net.
Harriers didn't have to wait long until their two-goal lead was restored - just two minutes into the second half, to be exact; a beautiful free-kick delivery lofted into the area and met by Matt on the angle who powerfully steered an effort that left Phillips helpless.
Clearly the hosts were keen to try and kill the game off as quickly as possible and in almost the next serious attack they made it 4-2, 54 minutes on the clock as Bradley kept hold of the ball superbly in midfield, holding off the attentions of many a Droylsden man as he powered towards goal, slipping in Guinan who with real class lifted the ball over Phillips and into the back of the net.
Fine saves from Phillips denied Guinan once more three minutes later after he'd been set free by Bradley once more, Michael Briscoe also then trying his luck at goal.
As you'd expect Droylsden never gave up the ghost and in efforts from Kilheeney and Paul Marshall they kept up their attacking attempt though without really troubling Lyness, Kyle Storer at the other end seeing a number of efforts fizz wide.
Substitute James McQuilkin's pass set up the influential Bradley with a quarter of an hour left to go as the home side continued to push forward as but his shot was turned around the post by Phillips as the tally of efforts on his goal reached a score.
He was breached for a fifth time with just six minutes left to go, Demetriou released out wide before controlling the ball well and driving a ball across the face of goal where Guinan was on hand at the far post to turn it in.
