No Tiger Woods means this week's Open at Royal Birkdale will be exactly that - wide open!

Sergio Garcia heads the bet365 market at 10/1, with Ernie Els at 11/1. Both are fine links players so they should give their supporters a good run for their money, but it could pay to look a bit further down their betting list for some value, especially as they are paying out on the first SIX places at ¼ odds.

Historically, the Americans have done well in our Open, particularly at Birkdale, where they've won five of the last eight played. Jim Furyk has already won a major and is an obvious contender at 22/1 having finished fourth here in 1998, while Stewark Cink registered his best Open finish to date last year when sixth, and makes plenty of each way appeal at 33/1.

The Aussie challenge looks as strong as ever and the market suggests that Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy are their best hopes at 25/1 the pair. However, the value may lie with left-handers Richard Green (80/1) and Nick O'Hern (140/1), who have been in good form in recent PGA Tour starts.
