Yates Relishing Plymouth Action
HARRIERS continue their pre-season campaign by welcoming Championship side Plymouth Argyle to Aggborough stadium tonight (7.45pm).
Mark Yates' side were more than good value for their 1-0 success over League One outfit Hereford United on Monday evening but are in for an entirely different challenge against Paul Sturrock's charges.
But that's no real worry for Yates, who is relishing the test facing his players as they match up against a side sure to be a step ahead for strength and speed.
"It's going to be another step-up for us but that's not a problem," he told harriers.co.uk.
"I just want the lads to go out and work hard, pass the ball and create chances.
"Plymouth will be bigger, stronger and better but that's what pre-season is all about, you have to test yourself.
"It's all about putting what we've been working on in training into practice."
Yates will have to do without central defenders Mark Creighton (calf) and Luke Jones (knee) this evening.
The duo are approaching full fitness after picking up knocks but will not be rushed back for tonight's game, and will instead be eased back into match action in next week's Errea South West Challenge Cup games.
Dean Bennett, who continues to trial with the club, will miss out due to a back problem.
Former Wolves pair Martin Riley and Keith Lowe (pictured) are the likely replacements in the middle of defence for the hosts - the two continuing their trial at Aggborough after promising performances against the Bulls.
Two trial players taking no further part in Harriers' pre-season are ex-Tamworth winger Darryl Taylor and former Weymouth front man Gavin McCallum, whose trials have come to an end.
Yates expects all his other trial players to feature at some point this evening, meaning further run-outs for the likes of Martin Brittain, David McDermott and Marco Addagio.
Harriers, who gave a debut to their new 2008-09 away kit on Monday night, are still hopeful of being able to give an airing to the new home strip for next season tonight.
Yates added: "There's been a bit of a delay about getting everything sorted with it this summer but hopefully if it arrives and we can prepare it in time then we'll be able to give it a showing tonight."
Kick-off is at 7:45pm tonight - admission is £10 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 U16s.
