Full Time: Barnstaple 1-3 Harriers
HARRIERS ended their involvement in the inaugural Errea South West Challenge Cup with a convincing 3-1 win over co-hosts Barnstaple.
Mark Yates' side scored twice in the second period to round-off the win, but with Chertsey ending the Group stage on four points and Yeovil on six, the boys will now head home to Worcestershire ahead of Tuesday's game with Stafford Rangers.
Back to tonight, and after getting plenty of good balls into the box, fine delivery eventually gave the game its first goal on 17 minutes as Martin BRITTAIN tucked a fine free-kick into the top corner of the net.
Michael Bowler already has one goal to his name this pre-season, he almost doubled that tally as he was causing trouble in the Barnstaple box with numerous efforts on goal from the ex-Stockport player getting deflected.
Five minutes shy of the break, Mark Creighton went on a one-man mission to make it 2-0 as he twice went close; first with a bullet header that was put behind for a corner, and moments later a looping effort that the hosts clawed off the line.
Just after Marco Addagio fired a header over, Barnstaple leveled matters with Lee FRANCIS beating fit-again Adam Bartlett with a well-taken volley.
ADDAGIO made amends just after the re-start, getting on the end of Brittain's low right-wing cross to finish past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1 in Harriers' favour.
The second period was a slightly quieter affair with Harriers making a number of changes, but two notable chances came from David McDermott who grazed the bar with a header, and Justin Richards who put wide after Matthew Barnes-Homer forced a decent save.
20 minutes from time, Harriers sealed the success as Knights charged down the wing before slipping a great ball to BARNES-HOMER who finished to grab his first goal of pre-season.
Harriers will play at Stafford on Tuesday (7:45pm) whilst Chertsey, Eastleigh, Torquay United and Yeovil Town feature in the SWCC Semi-Finals this weekend.
