Harriers continued pre-season with another Aggborough win on Saturday as a Tom Shaw penalty was enough to win a close-run friendly with League Two side Burton Albion.
Harriers could have found themselves in front inside two minutes - only a fine stop from an alert Adam Legzdins between the sticks for Burton denied Chris McPhee as he shot from around 12 yards.
The early breakthrough did come ten minutes later - the home side were awarded a penalty after Dave Hankin's cross was met in the area by the hand of Paul Boertien; Tom Shaw stepping up to coolly slot home the spot-kick to Legzdins' right.
With 18 minutes it should have been all square, though Adam Bolder drove just wide of the far post after being teed up in the area and shooting past Danny Lewis.
After the half-hour mark the chances kept coming for Albion as Aaron Webster curled a fine effort low around Lewis' palm and his upright, Shaun Harrad thumping the ball off the cross bar eight minutes before the break after muscling his way through into the box.
Five minutes after the break the hosts went close to getting a second - Mike Williams' well-hit cross finding the head of McPhee who powered a header that went straight into the palms of a grateful goalkeeper.
Just after the hour mark Harrad went close again for Burton, getting free of the home defence before hooking an effort over Lewis and, narrowly, over the bar. Around a quarter hour later, they arguably had their best chance of the afternoon when sub Jack Dyer fired just over the bar from ten yards after getting one-on-one with Lewis.
The second half was undoubtedly a quieter affair, Michael Briscoe had to be alert to Harrad's danger til the last, diving in to clear powerfully with a header as the front man looked to latch on to Dyer's ball.
