Goals from Chris McPhee and Lee Morris and Keith Briggs saw Harriers complete their pre-season programme with a comfortable 3-0 win over Hendesford Town on Saturday.
If Harriers were looking to give Steve Burr a guide as to how they'd start at York City next weekend they couldn't have made a better beginning of it than going into the lead inside just 12 seconds - straight from the kick-off, Tom Shaw's long ball into the area found Chris McPhee who wrestled free to stab home past goalkeeper Dan Crane.
With a quarter-hour gone the home side should have pulled themselves level and made Harriers pay for not clearing their lines - the ball fell to Mark Bellingham some 20 yards out who struck an effort well enough that forced Daniel Lewis into a neat parry. Soon after the visiting stopper was again alert to hold Aaron Gibson's firm shot.
There was a huge blow for Burr on the half-hour mark - John Finnigan leaving the field on a stretcher after being needlessly clattered by Chris Clements, real disappointment for the player after such promising signs in his recovery from a calf problem in recent games.
At the worst possible time the injury worries worsened for Harriers moments later - Tom Sharpe limping off with a knock, replaced by Michael Briscoe. Briscoe's impact was immediate, at one end only his diving header prevented a certain equaliser for the home side whilst at the other he should really have made it 2-0 on 39 minutes, stabbing on to the post from close range.
Two minutes before the interval and that lead was doubled - a perfect ball from Callum Gittings rolled in front of and into the path of Lee Morris who drew the goalkeeper before chipping him beautifully from 18 yards, the ball dropping into the empty net.
Four after the break sub Jack Byrne almost got his side a third, stretching to drive a good shot towards goal from the edge of the area that Crane did superbly to keep out with a one-handed save.
Just short of the hour Harriers introduced Nick Wright and Lee Vaughan into the fray as Hankin and Shaw made way respectively, Kyle Hadley and Matty Blair then replacing McPhee and Gittings.
With around 20 to go Harriers had the ball in the back of the net once again but the offside flag chalked this one off as Keith Briggs had been adjudged to have strayed as he headed home Mike Williams' cross.
Briggs was not to be denied with seven left to play, however - the impressive Morris stretched the home defence and crossed into the area for Wright who saw his shot stopped by a reactions parry from Crane; the ball falling into the path of the Harriers skipper who smashed home with no mistake.
