REACTION: Burr Rues Injury Luck

Posted on: Sat 07 Aug 2010

Harriers boss Steve Burr admitted that injuries to John Finnigan and Tom Sharpe overshadowed his side's victory in their final pre-season game of 2010 at Hednesford on Saturday.

The visitors were dealt a double blow before the break as the midfielder and defender were both substituted through injury - Finnigan leaving the field on a stretcher after twisting his knee and Sharpe limping off after picking up a bang to the hip.

In a true twist of the luck only football can bring you; Harriers have enjoyed an almost impeccable pre-season on in the injury front up until today.

Finnigan was up and walking in time for the start of the second half, albeit gingerly, whilst Sharpe's withdrawal looked to be precautionary - on either score, though, the boss admits it's just too early to say whether they'll make the trip to York.

"It was another good workout for our boys today," said Burr after the game.

"The real test will be next week, but it gives us confidence with winning matches.

"The only downside to today is that we've maybe lost two players for next week in John Finnigan and Tom Sharpe.

"But that is part and parcel of it, we'll have to get on with things - but considering that up to now we've had no injuries whatsoever, it is a bit of a concern.

"I have no idea [how serious Finnigan's is] until I have a chat with Gavin. It is too early but hopefully the pair of them will be okay, we'll know more as we go on this week."

Back to the game, and a quick-fire goal from Chris McPhee was followed by well-taken efforts from Lee Morris and Keith Briggs as Harriers wrapped up the summer in style.

"The lads did well today - the pitch was difficult and the rain helped out there," added the gaffer.

"We managed to pass it about and create a few chances and score some goals again.

"It was some start today, I'd just sat down and we'd scored... It would be smashing if we could do that next week!"
