'Gutted' Yates Blasts Beaten Harriers

HARRIERS' Manager Mark Yates has blasted his lacklustre players for 'letting down' the home fans at Aggborough with another below-par and sub-standard performance against Morecambe today; the club's last home game of the season.
Gary Thompson's penalty settled the tie before the break and it looked as if Harriers could have played for another season's worth of football and still not scored on the basis of this performance.
Some refused to accept the validity of the penalty-kick, nor Scott Bevan's subsequent sending-off - but Yates didn't even begin to cling to those as any sort of excuse for the efforts of his troops.
"It was definitely a penalty and was probably a sending off; I haven't got a problem with that," he said following the game.
"It's what happened before that - our defending was poor, just like our performance in general, I'm bitterly disappointed today.
"I feel the players have let the fans down today and I don't say that too often.
"The talk in the dressing room was 'come on, let's put in a performance for the fans who have stuck with us through thick and thin this season'; and it just didn't materialise, I'm gutted to be honest.
"We were still in the dressing room and our heads were elsewhere, I knew after two minutes we'd get beat, I didn't fancy us at all.
"It looks like we're just going to see the next two games out now which is bitterly disappointing - but I know they'll all perform at Wembley, which is even more frustrating."
Harriers finish the season with away games at Grays Athletic and Crawley Town next Tuesday and Saturday respectively.
"That's where we'll be okay - maybe we've got to go on a three-hour coach journey before we play our home games? We've got to do something," continued Yates.
"There's no other word for today other than disappointing - I expect a damn sight better out of my player."
