NEIL Howarth admitted that last night's collapse and defeat at Grays was very difficult to watch - and warned that the loyal away fans must be given a performance to remember in Saturday's final League game at Crawley.

Grays took a big step in securing their survival last night but the final relegation spot will still need to be decided on the final day with some six teams still in with a chance of going down - one of those six is Grays, whilst another, predictably is Crawley.

So a tough task lies in wait for Harriers but that's almost an irrelevance for Howarth now, who insists the fans deserve an improved performance on the road to make up for last night's woeful showing, and that of the last few games.

"The fans will still be down there at Crawley to support us, because that's what they've been like at away games all season, no matter what," Howarth said after the game.

"But it was a waste of time them coming down tonight for this performance, I'd like to apologise to them because a lot of them made the trip for nothing.

"We have to make sure we give them a performance at Crawley on Saturday now."

Speaking on the night's 3-0 reverse, he added: "It's very difficult to say that a team we've put together lacked the right attitude - Grays wanted to win this game more than us and our performance wasn't good enough. That's hard for us to accept but it's what's happened tonight."
