Mark Yates has admitted that Saturday's opening-day opponents Aldershot Town may make a few waves in the BSP this season - but is determined to get his side's campaign off to a good start.

Town underachieved somewhat last season and will no doubt, like Harriers, be looking to make amends this time around starting with one of the ties of the afternoon at Aggborough on Saturday (3.00pm).

Yates is confident that Aldershot will raise one or two eyebrows over the course of the next nine months.

"Aldershot will surprise a few this year," Yates explained to harriers.co.uk "I've had them watched and I've seen them myself. They've got some excellent players, they're well organised and they play some decent stuff.

"We've done our homework and all of the players will be keyed into what we're after and it all starts on Saturday.

"The lads are chomping at the bit for it all to get going - we've got a bit of everything in the squad now but we need to put it together, and on a consistent basis."

Harriers take confidence from an unbeaten pre-season schedule into Saturday's encounter, knowing that an early three points on the board would, among many things, start to rectify the poor home form that plagued the team last season.

"Pre-season has gone pretty well, the boys have worked really hard and the spirit in the camp is really good," continued Yates, who will also begin the first of a four-match touchline ban this weekend.

"We've set foundations there and we need to build on it by putting performances together and getting that winning mentality.

"Our home form was disappointing and it's something we're confident we can address.

"We're confident we can break teams down and pick up more points at Aggborough - it's not something we want to make too much of but we'll be putting it right."
