Boss Mark Yates was left to rue the 'sloppy' football that cost Harriers three points on the opening day of the BSP season against Aldershot.

Harriers went down 2-1 to promotion hopefuls Aldershot at Aggborough Stadium, with Gary Waddock's side more than aided on their way to victory by some suspect defending.

But, despite admitting that three points were easily there for his side this afternoon, Manager Yates is looking towards the positives.

For large spells of the game the hosts looked the livelier of the two sides, with Yates reflecting to harriers.co.uk: "We were OK in the first half - I thought we looked good and created a few chances, unfortunately we didn't take them.

"I just thought we'd go on and get stronger. We did, a little bit into the second half but we were two-down by that point so that's disappointing.

"Three points were there for the taking today. Ten minutes of sloppy play at the start of the second half has killed us and we've got to look to improve on Tuesday now.

"There are a lot of positives we can take but there is still a lot to work on."

Such is the nature of BSP football, merely hours into the start of the season there's already very little time for the management team at Aggborough to implement anything new with the next game coming up on Tuesday night.

Harriers make the short trip to Marston Road, home of Stafford Rangers for the first away game of the new campaign.

Yates added: "Stafford will be a tough place to go to but we need three points on Tuesday - I haven't lost any belief in my squad because of one game - we just need to keep improving.
"We aren't going to berate the players or lose faith in them; nothing gets won on the first day of the season.

"There's plenty of ability in the squad and we just need to keep doing what we're good at."
